  • Vixel Says:

I like writing blog posts and personal essays on topics that have affected me and for which I can draw on personal experience. I also love writing research papers when the topic is interesting to me, though I often find it hard to stay within word limits!

I used to write a lot of fiction, and I still do to an extent, but nowhere near as much as I used to. It’s something I have to devote large chunks of time to, I find it very hard to leave anything for a later hour or date, so I only really write fiction now when I know I have the time to write for hours.

    • Katie Says:

I also like writing from personal experience. A lot of people look for ‘passion’ in writing. I know no better way to put passion into something unless you’ve experienced it first hand.

  • Nic Says:

I love my blog – it’s my baby! I try to write a blog post every day. I also write articles for magazines and websites. And last year I tried my hand at fiction and wrote a novel. I just love writing!

    • Kelvin Says:

A big can be the beginning of writing. Often times it help to use a blog to reflective back on writing and our lives and something that can share with others of other similar interests.

  • Megan Says:

Blog posts and personal essays are probably my favorite.

  • Katie Says:

I’m mostly a fan of Blog Posts. This is because I’ve gotten positive feedback from it.

I do write poetry, but its really dark. LIKE REALLY DARK and I kind of like to pretend I don’t write it so I don’t feel like a freak, haha. I’ve never shared it with anyone, so I don’t even know if its any good. Then again who’s to call the terms on something being good or not.

    • Pam Says:

That is so true!! No one really has the right to say that poem is horrible or that was is awesome. Each one is amazing and unique in its own way. I was afraid to share my poetry for a very long time, but once I put it out there I felt better. Try it sometime. You might be surprised.

      • Kelvin Says:

I will agree with you have said Pam. There’s no right or right to judging a poem. I believe that a poem shows a person’s writing style and the uniqueness that they have. This can go for any type of writing. It’s your own literary work so take pride in what you write.

    • Julie Says:

I find that too much of that genre is laced with happy lovey shit and that’s just… not true to life. I agree with Pam, if you ever decide to share it, I think you’ll be happily surprised at the response.

  • Pam Says:

I have always loved writing poetry. When I get upset or frusturated or stress I write poetry. It has been something that I have always turned to since I was in junior high.

I also love writing blog posts. I love putting random thoughts and ideas out there and seeing that I’m not along in my weird and off the wall thoughts.

  • Julie Says:

I used to love writing poetry, but it seems like I’ve veered off into a love for blog posts. I sort of mix commentary journalism with my own snarking. I have no idea if people read or enjoy it at all, but I love it so I guess I don’t mind either way!

I suppose after that would be a love for short stories. I’ve recently found that I’m way better at writing short things instead of long novel length things. Its way less intimidating to not have any sort of length requirement. I think its always been this way with me, I’m just accepting it now! >.<

I agree with what was said before. I love writing realistic fiction. If I write a story I know that the audience wants them to end up together, but that’s not real life so my characters will break up. I make it enjoyable but realistic and try to stick to that idea.

  • Barb Says:

I go two ways: either very dry, research paper writing, which I CRAVE or conversational, sarcastic type writing, as in blog posts.

I’m really not a creative writer – not quite poetic enough for that. I like to analyze art. I don’t create it.

  • Ellie Says:

I absolutely love creative writing in any form. Though as of late, my focus has been on my blog. Over the summer I’d like to get back into writing since I should have the time. I know my novel is just sitting on my bookshelf waiting for attention, asking why did you abandon me?

I hate research papers, even if the topic interests me. The research just kills me for some reason. A topic I’m interested will make writing the paper more bearable, but I wouldn’t say likable.

  • Tiffany Says:

I love writing research papers. Even after a twenty-page English paper, and a fifteen-page history paper this past semester, I still enjoy the process. I like to write short stories as well, when I actually have the time.

    • Amber Says:

I LOVE writing research papers too. I just like the learning process that goes into them I think. And I always feel SO accomplished after I’ve finished one!

  • Erin Says:

I like writing blog posts. I don’t like writing academically. (And thankfully with college being over with I won’t have to.)

I like writing from the heart, and that has gotten me in trouble at times. But I pride myself in being honest and straight forward.

I’ve also tried my hand at fiction but I don’t think I’m really good at it. I feel like a lot of it is just “fluff” instead of substance. And I’m terrible at poetry. Pure terrible.

    • Kelvin Says:

I’m ending my second year of college, Erin. Sometimes, depending on what the assignment, I don’t mind writing papers, but I rather want to blog or write outside the academic world.

  • Amber Says:

I like writing blog posts and wierdly enough I actually really enjoy writing research papers, if it was on a topic that I was interested in. I put well over 16 hours of work into a huge research paper that I did my first year of college and I loved every minute of it!

  • Kelvin Says:

I will have to say that I enjoy blogging and writing outside of the college life because I am able to show my writing abilities. But I’m not saying that I can’t do that writing paper assignments for classes, but I rather do something that is not required of me. Also something about writing that gets me going is after writing a good paper, I’m able to showcase it and be proud of my work. Often times I like to peer review what others have written.

Music – because it has more nuances and dimensions than just straight forward writing.
