i actually read a lot of writing/poetry blogs so a lot of them are participating in whats called the NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month). I think they are writing a poem a day on their blogs!

i write poems on my blog as well but not daily! more like 1-3x a week. :)

actually, for all the poetry i write, i actually am not familiar with many poets. my favorite is probably edgar allan poe (by default) but my writing is nothing like that (or is it?). one of my readers described my poems as having a dark irony!

i definitely like the beatnik poetry (Allen Ginsburg is great!) i go to poetry slams in my town for inspiration. one day, i may try it but not just yet..

I agree with the others I am definitely a fan of E.E. Cummings. But my favorites are Robert Frost, Sharon Olds and Nikki Giovanni. I have even started a poetry notebook. I schedule time to add to my novel. But my poetry mostly comes when I am inspired. Like I'll just be cleaning or feeling down and something will pop into my head. So I work with it. Someday if I get the courage I may just publish that too.

Megan, I totally agree! e.e.cummings is one of my favorites as well.

And Billy Collins. He is a true poet in my mind---in that he takes the mundane, the ordinary minutia of life, and captures those moments with such a vivid and unique perspective. He isn't overly descriptive or emotional, and he even weaves a little humor into his poems. Somehow, he can turn waiting at the airport into art (check out "Passengers"). My favorite poem of his, though is "On Turning Ten." Read it, now. The last stanza is brilliant.

My absolute favorite poet is ee cummings. I have several books of his, and I am just in love. His writing is amazingly unique. He threw all rules out the window and just wrote. I love that about him.
